Introduction

As the transition to electric vehicles accelerates, the demand for reliable, safe, and efficient EV charging infrastructure has never been greater. At InnoDez, we specialize in full electrical engineering design for both Level 2 AC and Level 3 (fast/DC) EV charging across multifamily properties and convenience store (CStore) locations in California. Here’s a showcase of our recent projects, our technical scope, and why our clients trust our designs to deliver.

Our Recent Projects & Locations

We’ve completed projects in diverse settings across California, including:

Project # Location Type
1 372 Camille Court, Mountain View, CA 94040 MultiFamily Residence
2 1201 Monte Diablo Ave, San Mateo, CA 94401 Mixed-use / MultiFamily
3 & 4 1400 P Street & 1431 Q Street, Sacramento, CA 95814 Urban MultiFamily / Public Access DC Fast
5 4888 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601 Convenience Store / CStore / Retail
6 CNR US395 and Auburn Ave, Adelanto, CA 92301 Highway / Remote Location CStore
7 & 8 121 Laurie Meadows Dr & 347 Laurie Meadows Dr, San Mateo, CA 94403 Large Residential Community
9 12167 Mt. Vernon Ave, Grand Terrace, CA 92313 Neighborhood MultiFamily

Scope of Work & Technical Deliverables

For each location, our design scope has included:

  • Load calculations to assess existing service capacity, peak loads, diversity, coordination between loads, and all relevant safety margins.
  • Riser diagrams and single line diagrams (SLDs) showing how EV chargers connect to the Main Switchboard, and how power flows through transformers, switchgear, panels, and conduits.
  • Wiring and conduit sizing/layout, ensuring both code compliance (NEC, CA local amendments) and efficient, safe routing.
  • Transformer sizing when needed, including consideration of future expansion, voltage drop, harmonics, etc.
  • Labeling, documentation, and permit-ready drawings.
  • For some sites, designing Wi-Fi or network distribution for charger monitoring and telematics.

Key Challenges & Solutions

  1. Ensuring sufficient available power: In many existing sites, the electrical infrastructure (service, switchboards) is marginal for new DC fast chargers. We often need to evaluate whether upgrades are needed (e.g. new feeders, larger conductor sizes, sometimes new transformer).
  2. Voltage drop & efficiency: Especially for DC fast chargers, distance from service and routing through conduits matter. We design carefully to minimize voltage drop and losses.
  3. Safety & code compliance: CA has strict local codes plus NEC; fast charging requires attention to grounding, bonding, protection (overcurrent, GFCI, etc.), and thermal effects.
  4. Futureproofing: Many clients want designs that allow easy expansion (adding more chargers, higher power ones). We build in spare capacity, conduit raceways, clear routing, etc.
  5. Network / monitoring integration: Chargers often need remote monitoring, data collection, firmware updates. Some sites lacked good Wi-Fi or cellular signal; we plan for network paths and signal boosters when needed.

Why Choose InnoDez

  • Deep experience with multifamily residential and CStores, including regulatory experience in CA.
  • Full scope service: from load calculation to permit drawings to construction support.
  • Cost-effective designs that anticipate and reduce future upgrade costs.
  • Attention to detail: labeling, diagrams, conduit layouts documented so installers have clarity.

Case Highlight

For example, at 4888 Lankershim Blvd, North Hollywood, we provided Level 3 DC Fast charging design for a CStore site. Because the site’s existing service did not support the power draw, we modeled several scenarios to either upgrade the transformer, run new feeders, or alternately reduce charger count. We also designed network connectivity and the routing of conduits so that future chargers can be added without tearing up pavement.

Conclusion & Call to Action

At InnoDez, we believe reliable EV infrastructure is foundational for sustainable communities. Whether you are managing a multifamily complex, a retail or convenience store, or planning along high-traffic corridors, we have the technical, regulatory, and design experience to make your EV charger deployment safe, cost-efficient, and future-ready.
